At night, the lab was quiet. The scientists departed for their quarters to slumber. The subject would not, could not, be conscious of the passage of time, or of all the things being done to her...theoretically.

within the stasis chamber, the subject stood...theoretically in some state
of near-suspended animation. During the day, the scientists went busliy
about their work, taking tissue and fluid samples from it, adjusting their
electrical and chemical feeds, analyzing the results and patting themselves
on the back for their incredible and important innovations.
